Glialcells help memory along: Study elucidates previously unknown mechanism for spatial learning NatureComms

-ATP 4, Na-GTP 0.4, Alexa Fluor 594 hydrazide 0.04 , Fluo-4 pentapotassium salt 0.2 , pH adjusted to 7.2 using KOH, osmolarity 290–295 mOsm/l. Cells were kept in the current clamp mode. Using a Ti:sapphire pulsed laser the fluorescent indicators were excited . A glutamate microiontophoresis system was used for local dendritic activation.

Next to the subicular cut, a clustered bipolar stimulation electrode was placed . A borosilicate glass pipette filled with ACSF was positioned at the boarder of stratum oriens and stratum pyramidale of CA1 to record the evoked population spikes. The stimulation intensity was adjusted to 80% of that evoking the maximum population spike amplitude. Only slices with a minimum population spike amplitude of 0.8 mV were used for experiments.

Immunomodulatory fecal metabolites are associated with mortality in COVID-19 patients with respiratory failure - Nature CommunicationsImmunomodulatory fecal metabolites are associated with mortality in COVID-19 patients with respiratory failure - Nature CommunicationsHere, via applying metagenomics and metabolomics analyses, the authors show that fecal microbiota composition and microbiota-derived metabolites predict the trajectory of respiratory function and death in patients with severe SARS-Cov-2 infection, suggesting the gut-lung axis to play an important role in the recovery from COVID-19.

Early response evaluation by single cell signaling profiling in acute myeloid leukemia - Nature CommunicationsEarly response evaluation by single cell signaling profiling in acute myeloid leukemia - Nature CommunicationsThe molecular mechanisms underlying response to chemotherapy in Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) remain to be explored. Here, the authors perform 36-dimensional mass cytometry in 32 AML patients during intensive chemotherapy and suggest functional signalling analysis for prognosis prediction early after treatment in AML.

New mechanism uncovered behind osteoarthritis could inform new treatmentsNew mechanism uncovered behind osteoarthritis could inform new treatmentsResearchers in the United States and Japan have discovered a new mechanism that links age-related cartilage tissue stiffening with the repression of a key protein associated with longevity. These findings enhance the understanding of mechanisms that lead to the deterioration of joints that causes osteoarthritis, according to the authors of a new study, published January 10th in Nature Communications.
