Black Community Center, 2805 E.
The City of San Antonio sponsors the march that draws an estimated 100,000 people and is considered one of the nation’s largest MLK observances. Because of COVID-19 safety concerns, the commission canceled the annual event for two consecutive years. The city streamed virtual marches in honor of the slain civil rights leader.
“The march this year is going to honor MLK’s legacy,” McKee-Rodriguez said. “It’s going to be a call for voters’ rights as family requested, and it will be a return to the pride that exists on the East Side.” The councilman noted the city council’s approval of an additional $200,000 that he requested in April for the commission’s budget.• Janu. 15: Wreath-laying ceremony and interfaith service.MLK commission chair Dwayne Robinson thanked McKee-Rodriguez, Mayor Ron Nirenberg, the city council and board members for their support.
