Food hygiene inspections are carried out regularly to ensure the meals you're served are prepared correctly
We all have our favourite - whether it's a cheeky Indian or a traditional fish and chips. But it's worth bearing in mind that all establishments selling fresh food - including corner shops and off licences - have to undergo a regular rigorous food hygiene assessment.
Inspections cover everything from management of food safety - a system or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat, cleanliness and condition of facilities including appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control and the all-important hygienic food handling when it comes to cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage.Food hygiene inspections are carried out by the local authority.
Given that Blackpool has a large number of takeaways and restaurants, in order to service the millions of tourists who visit the seaside resort every year, it's worrying that so many feature in the list. Similarly, Burnley and Nelson a significant number of venues which have rated low, while the likes of Lancaster and Chorley have very few.
Below is a list of all the premises serving fresh food which received either a zero rating or 1/5 in the last six months of 2022 . Be aware that businesses can request a new inspection with some of the premises below awaiting a new rating.
