Most of the 21 people who call themselves a misunderstood, nature-loving family remained jailed Tuesday over allegedly violatingEligio Bishop, leader of the group known as Carbon Nation, was released with two others Monday after he pleaded no contest to violating Hawaii’s quarantine, which is meant to curb the spread ofAfter their release, they caught a flight to Los Angeles, but Bishop on Tuesday told the Associated Press he’s waiting for his remaining “family” to join him.
“I definitely didn’t know that wasn’t allowed. Never seen a turtle before that big,” he said. “I’ve never seen a turtle just free in the ocean.”All travelers — tourists and residents — arriving in Hawaii must obey a mandatory 14-day quarantine, which doesn’t allow people to leave a hotel room or residence for anything other than medical emergencies.
