同レポートは、こうした行動を「Intent-Based Subscribing」、すなわち“目的ベースのサブスク利用”と位置づけている。 サブスクリプションはもはや、特定のプラットフォームへの忠誠心を示すものではなく、「観たい作品がある時に使うツール」になっているというわけだ。 レポートでは、コンテンツ、フランチャイズ、カルチャー上の話題性が、プラットフォームそのものへのロイヤルティを上回るようになっているとも分析されている。 もっとも、これはZ世代が動画配信サービスから離れているという意味ではない。
むしろZ世代とミレニアル世代は、複数の配信サービスを使い分ける傾向が強い。 レポートによれば、Z世代は平均3.51件、ミレニアル世代は平均3.27件の配信サービスを契約しており、重複するライブラリを管理しながら、常に多様な選択肢を確保することへの抵抗が比較的小さいとされている。 この背景には、エンターテインメント消費が「所有」から「アクセス」へ移行したことがある。 レポートでは、映画・テレビについて、70%がストリーミングの選択肢があるため物理メディアを購入しなくなったと回答。
音楽では71%、ゲームでは62%が同様に、所有よりもアクセスを重視する傾向を示している。 Z世代にとって重要なのは、Netflix、Disney+、Prime Videoといったサービス名そのものではなく、「そこで今、自分が観たい作品を観られるかどうか」なのだろう。 配信サービスにとっては、作品数の多さだけでなく、“この作品のために加入したい”と思わせるタイトルやフランチャイズを持てるかが、ますます重要になっている。
