Marlins' Yuli Gurriel speaks on Astros' lack of interest, his fondest Houston memories

This new chapter has no guarantees, but Marlins manager Skip Schumaker sounds like he plans on his new first baseman sticking around and imparting wisdom to a young team that has lost 90-plus games in back-to-back seasons. After winning a Gold Glove and becoming just the second player in Astros franchise history to win a batting title in 2021, Gurriel's numbers dipped last season, hitting .242 with a career-low .647 OPS. However, the 38-year-old rebounded to hit .347 in the postseason as the Astros captured their second World Series championship.
Gurriel should get plenty of chances in Miami, where he had already made his offseason home. Garrett Cooper is the only natural first baseman on the Marlins' 40-man roster and he's never played the position more than 73 times in a season.
