The First Minister said during FMQs that he was sorry for 'any distress' caused after the Scottish Government interpreted requests for messages 'too narrowly'.

Humza Yousaf has apologised after it emerged the Scottish Government initially withheld evidence from the UK Covid Inquiry but rejected claims that he and his deputy misled Holyrood.

When Yousaf was asked to admit he "didn't tell the truth" by Scottish Tory leader Douglas Ross, he replied: "I absolutely refute that."“Where I do accept fully from the inquiry is that we have interpreted their requests to narrowly and subsequently having done so we have then supplied 14,000 messages to the inquiry.”

The Scottish Government did not hand over any WhatsApps when giving its final response to the inquiry in June.
