Arriving migrants are welcomed in Martha’s Vineyard. Readers differ on Republican governors’ policy of sending migrants to other states.Yes, it is time that the rest of America sees what Texas and other border states go through with the influx of immigrants. But the Republican governors are doing it for politics and not for any concern over the people they are using as pawns.
If they want to spread the migrants across the country to relieve pressure on the border, why send them only to Democratic-led states? Why not to Ohio, Wyoming or other Republican strongholds? Those states need workers like others. Share the wealth. If they really cared about these human beings, they wouldn’t just ship them off without prior notice to parts unknown with no preparations for their arrival. Instead, they would work with other states so they can prepare for these immigrants. But that would show some common sense and compassion, something our governor and others severely lack.I have heard and watched in shame as governors of several states, including Texas, use migrants as pawns for their own political benefit.
Shame to them and bystanders, who witness and cheer these types of heartless political acts. Thomas Merton wrote “Conjectures of a Guilty Bystander” to define those who watch from the sidelines as horrific activity occurred. Sound familiar? What is the real reason behind these inhumane actions referred to as “relocation programs?” Getting votes and saving their paycheck is the bottom line.
