Reader praises Rep. Chip Roy’s message about fire prevention, but wonders where his message about COVID-19 prevention was.Re: “No love in that Oscars slap — only more hurt,” Other Views, Friday:
I read Nancy M. Preyor-Johnson’s column on Friday. I’m the proud husband of my beautiful and loving wife of 47 years. Like Preyor-Johnson’s hubby, I have confidence, admiration and respect for my wife and, in the place of Will Smith, I might have felt the hurt and shame that my wife felt. But I’d have privately told her I love her with or without her beautiful hair and squeezed her hand.
However, why did Roy never issue a similar statement about protecting constituents from COVID-19? It could have read: “Everyone be safe and smart! Social distance, mask, and get your COVID vaccine shots!” And a link to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for recommendations would have been very helpful.
Instead, Roy has belittled coronavirus safety measures, offered quack preventatives, and ranted “Fire Fauci.” Meanwhile, America is sadly approaching 1 million deaths from this dread disease.
