Barnsley’s late great children’s book author and illustrator Brian Wildsmith is being celebrated in his home town with not one but two free exhibitions as the town braces itself for visitors county wide and beyond.
The World of Brian Wildsmith, featuring his life and work, includes many art works and family treasures never before on public display and is set to enchant children and parents alike. Paws, Claws, Tales & Roars: The Art of Brian Wildsmith is at Cooper Gallery while Coming Home: The Life of Brian Wildsmith will be at Experience Barnsley Museum, inside the nearby Town Hall. Both run from Saturday, April 20 to September 21, 2024.
The golden-edged edition brings together artwork from three of Wildsmith’s iconic works: Wild Animals, Birds, and Fishes, digitally remastered by his son, Simon Wildsmith. In addition, a totally new and expansive range of prints, posters, and assorted merchandise featuring Brian's enchanting artwork, and designed by his son Simon, will be launched for this occasion and available for purchase at the two gallery shops.
