Jenni Hermoso accused Spain’s FA of a ‘strategy of division and manipulation’ as players were called up despite their boycottSeptember 19, 2023 10:49 am, the World Cup winning football player at the centre of the “kissgate” scandal, accused the Spanish FA of “intimidation” and “threats” on Tuesday after the sport’s ruling body called up players who asked not to join the national team.to play against Sweden on Friday, the first match since beating England 1-0 in the final last month.
Fifteen of the title-winning teammates were selected to play, despite announcing a boycott unless the Spanish FA brought in structural changes to the ruling body. Players who refuse to play can face fines of €30,000 and 15-year bans. Montse Tome, Spain’s women’s manager, said on Monday she left Ms Hermoso out of the Spain side for her protection as players issued a statement refusing to play.
Ms Hermoso hit back with an angry statement on social media saying nothing had changed since Mr Rubiales’s resignation. “We have spent weeks, months, searching for protection from inside the [Royal Spanish Football Federation] that never came,” she said.
