Hyndburn's 'working class people will suffer' after landlord scheme scrapped
A senior Labour councillor has expressed his disappointment at the decision of a local authority to scrap its selective licensing scheme for landlords.
Thursday’s cabinet meeting confirmed the end of the scheme after 10 years on March 4 next year. It was brought in originally in December 2012 because the designated area was one of low housing demand the order would contribute to the improvement of the social and economic conditions. The scheme covered Church, Kirk, Peel, Springhill, West Accrington and Woodnook. Labour opposition group leader Cllr Munsif Dad said: “I am disappointed to see this coming to end.
“Selective landlord licensing was never intended to be permanent. The Hyndburn Selective Landlord Licensing Scheme was implemented to support a range of initiatives to address low housing demand in part of Accrington and Church.
