Shop Vac employees who lost their jobs abruptly in 2020 are seeking money they claim they are owed under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act.

Shop-Vac contends in response to the suit it was not required to give 60 days’ notice of the terminations because it was a “faltering company” and because the layoffs were caused by “unforeseeable business circumstances” caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Great Star acknowledges it agreed to lease certain Shop-Vac employees including the corporate controller, plant manager and director of human resources.
Shop-Vac was a family-owned business established in 1953 as an offshoot of Craft Tool Co. Its headquarters, production, warehouse and distribution operations were at three locations in Williamsport.
