A woman was accused last week of using bogus and forged documents and checks to purchase a $840,000 home in Monmouth County, authorities said. A representative of a Bordentown City title company approached police in January with a fraudulent $76,652.79 check that had allegedly been provided at a closing by Sydne Phillips, 32, of Allentown, according to the, which is leading the investigation. Phillips allegedly used the check to help cover the closing costs for the house.
Detectives said the check was part of a scheme that allowed Phillips to secure a mortgage on the Allentown home. She was also accused of forging multiple documents, using the identity of a relative, providing fake tax income forms for that relative, and providing fraudulent bank account statements.
