Toni Landi got a call from what she thought was her bank. Instead, it was a scammer who tricked her out of $1,000 using Zelle. It was the bank’s fraud prevention department, Toni Landi was told.
“He said in order to stop the charge before it went through, I would have to access my PNC Zelle app to reverse the unauthorized transaction,” she said. “He gave me a code to enter, and he told me to enter my first and last name and type `reversal’ on the Zelle memo.” Landis is one of millions of people who have been tricked by con artists to use Zelle to steal their money.
