A woman has suffered life-threatening injuries after being knocked over by a car as it left a McDonald's drive-through.
The 64-year-old was struck near the fast food outlet's branch off Shields Road, in the Byker area of Newcastle, shortly before 20:50 BST on Friday. Police said the driver of a Vauxhall Astra was arrested on suspicion of causing injury by dangerous driving.The woman is being treated in hospital where she is in a critical condition, officers added.
