Bethany Lee broke both femurs and 'basically everything' inside her ruptured when the car she was in was hit from behind by a van on the motorway.
A woman who had to learn how to walk again after being involved in a horror crash that killed her dad was so inspired by the medics that helped her recover, that she switched careers to the NHS.
The group were coming home from Ashton Athletic's ground when the collision between a Ford Transit van, a silver Toyota Avensis people carrier and a black BMW 1 series took place near junction 16. Bethany, now 25, said: “I broke both my femurs and basically everything inside me ruptured – so I had really long surgeries and lots of them. I was always in and out of theatre while they were trying to fix everything.
After returning home from Manchester Royal Infirmary, Bethany slowly began to recover; progressing from her wheelchair, to crutches, to walking independently - thanks to her physiotherapy team and the support of her loved ones. I dreaded physiotherapy but they helped me to walk again and I couldn’t be more grateful for that.”
