Woman found unresponsive in San Diego County jail died of septic shock, sheriff's officials say [Breaking]
A 25-year-old woman who died after she was found unresponsive in a San Diego County jail cell last year died of septic shock, sheriff’s officials said Wednesday.
Sepsis occurs when a body-wide infection leads to dangerously low blood pressure, according to the National Library of Medicine.Granillo was booked into jail July 8, 2022 on suspicion of violating a court order. A few days later, about 2 a.m. on July 13, 2022, she was found unresponsive in her cell during a safety check at Las Colinas Detention and Re-entry Facility in Santee, sheriff’s officials said.
“The Naloxone was given in case it was an ,” Lt. Joseph Janjura said in an email Wednesday. “It does not hurt a person if it’s not an .” She was released from sheriff’s custody just before she died, the department said in a news release Wednesday. Formally releasing people from custody ahead of a serious illness or pending death has become a common Sheriff’s Department practice in recent years.
