OAKLAND — A pedestrian was hit and killed Monday by a car driven by somebody who left the scene, police said.
The fatal hit-and-run crash happened about 9:50 p.m. on Hegenberger Road at Hamilton Street. A woman believed to be in her 30s was down at the scene when officers arrived, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.According to police, the early investigation indicated the driver of an unknown vehicle was going south on Hegenberger and hit the woman, who was crossing the street near — but not in — a marked crosswalk. That vehicle fled the scene.
Officials did not offer any description of the suspect driver or vehicle. Police said they do not know if alcohol or drugs were involved. Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money leading to the arrest of the driver. Police can be contacted at 510-238-8570.
