on Saturday at FanFest, snaking into an autograph line that stretched the length of Globe Life Field’s concourse. Pitching coach Mike Maddux got his first look, too, watching a deGrom bullpen session.
In some ways, perhaps deGrom’s signing with the Rangers made it more feasible for Heaney and Eovaldi to follow. Now, the idea is for “The Triumvirate” to push one another all year. “I’m a firm believer that pitching wins championships,” he added. “Now, we still have to go out on the field and do it.”The next step is to develop chemistry with one another and an identity for a veteran pitching staff. In their first interaction as teammates — The Triumvirate didn’t really know one another previously — it appeared they were on the way to creating a relationship. They laughed and joked easily. Of course, that’s in 30 minutes’ worth of softball questions.
