The Colorado Rapids, currently eighth in the MLS Western Conference, are set to enter its busiest stretch of the season to date — a grueling five matches in 15 days.

COMMERCE CITY — There are a few schools of thought when it comes to fixture congestion.

It happens to every team in every season across the American soccer landscape, including in MLS, but even looking at it on paper can be a bit daunting. The Colorado Rapids , currently eighth in the Western Conference, are set to enter its busiest stretch of the season to date — a grueling five matches in 15 days.

Rapids 2 head coach Erik Bushey sees an opportunity for players on the cusp of being first-team regulars to get their shot with the top club. Rapids first team head coach Robin Fraser says it’s about staying healthy and finding the right “team guys” to not only earn valuable points, but get meaningful experience.

“It’s an awesome challenge,” Bushey said Sunday at DU following Rapids 2’s 3-0 win over Timbers 2. “The busier the better because that means the first team keeps winning. What it means for us is guys will have to be flexible and will have to be able to adapt. … For sure Monday through Friday it’s gonna cause more challenges and moving pieces, but, this is the club. Adapt, overcome and move on.”

The stretch kicks off in the Bay Area against the San Jose Earthquakes with kickoff set for 8 p.m. MDT Saturday at PayPal Park in San Jose. The Earthquakes, second to last in the West, are a team still trying to find a way out of a brutal start after they fired then-head coach Matías AlmayedaIt gets tougher from there: a mid-weekat Minnesota United on Wednesday followed by a tight turnaround to face top-of-the-table LAFC at 1:30 p.m. May 14 at DSGP.
