A sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) can happen at any time and requires bystander intervention to help try and save a person’s life.
As part of the programme of World Restart a Heart Day, members of Wishaw Company St. Andrew’s First Aid are offering members of the public the opportunity to learn something of the simple steps of saving a life through Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation .
The free download features the latest breaking news and exclusive stories, and allows you to customise your page to the sections that matter most to you.People who suffer a sudden cardiac arrest require immediate cardiopulmonary resuscitation to prevent damaging effects from lack of blood flow to the brain, heart, lungs, and other organs.Seven out of ten cardiac arrests happen in front of bystanders, however less than 20 per cent of lay bystanders end up providing effective first aid.
A St Andrew’s First Aid spokesperson said: “A recent Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrest Programme driven by the Scottish Government and supported by St. Andrew’s First Aid as well all public services and many other charities. “The American Heart Association has stated that the survival rate of the victims nearly doubles when AED is administered along with CPR.
