Hezbollah leader’s speech could signal ‘turning point’ in the Israel-Hamas war should further involvement be announced
Hezbollah has been clashing with Israel on Lebanon’s southern border since the conflict broke out in the deadliest escalation between the two sides since the 2006 Lebanon War. “Hezbollah are seen as a much stronger force than Hamas or any other group in the region,” Dr Julie Norman, professor of politics and international relations at University College London, tellsNasrallah has claimed the group has a fighting force of 100,000 personnel, but other estimates put it significantly lower, ranging from 25,000 to 50,000. Its arsenal is sophisticated, including precision missiles and armed drones.
He added that his group’s leader was monitoring the situation “moment by moment and hour by hour”, as well as overseeing the clashes on the Israel-Lebanon border. This would be a significant “turning point” that would mean the conflict spilling out into the region, says Dr Norman. “As things escalate, nothing is off the table”.
