Early voting for the May 6 election starts Monday and runs through much of Fiesta, when almost everything in San Antonio comes to a halt.
Former congressional candidate Jessica Cisneros waits to address about 60 people during a rally for Proposition A in the parking lot of the Claude Black Center in San Antonio on Saturday morning.Monday marks the start of early voting for the May 6 election. And it's the beginning of a full week of Fiesta revelry.
It's not that this year's city election is inconsequential. The mayor’s office, all 10 City Council seats and a controversial proposition to change policing policy are on the ballot. As in past years, the 11-day annual rite of parades, parties, medals and excess won't do council or school board candidates, or participatory democracy, any favors.
This time, it’s back to seven days because polling sites — by tradition — will be closed on Friday, April 28, in honor of the Battle of Flowers Parade, the city’s founding Fiesta event.
