Administrators PwC confirmed last week that 269 people would be having their last day with the Nottinghamshire-based firm

Wilko shoppers have been saddened by the news that hundreds of Nottinghamshire employees would lose their jobs. Administrators PwC confirmed last week that 269 people working for the company, including many in the company's Worksop support centre, would be working their last day with the Nottinghamshire-based firm today .

Customers, some of whom had bought items from the shop's administration sale from the Lower Parliament Street store in Nottingham city centre, were deeply sympathetic with the staff at risk of redundancy. Retiree Brian Aram, 78, from Thorneywood, said: “I think it’s disgusting; businesses just aren’t getting any help, the government aren’t even interested!”“I feel terrible for the employees as well, there’s no jobs going for anybody, there’s nothing else left.

Retiree Simmi Sergeant, 76, from St Ann's, added: "I think it will be hard to replace Wilko. It’s just the end of another British institution. “Unfortunately Wilko closing changes the face of every city and it is very sad that we are losing these fixes and features of a city.”
