Wilko's administration has left Nottinghamshire taxpayers hundreds of thousands out of pocket, it has been revealed. A recently published document from Wilko's administrators PwC said altogether around £50,450 was owed to Nottingham City Council, Broxtowe Borough Council, Gedling Borough Council and Ashfield District Council after the retailer collapsed in August.
Nottinghamshire Live understands Broxtowe Borough Council is owed around £120,000 in business rates rather than the £12,060 total listed in PwC's statement. This is without factoring in any unpaid rent for the Beeston unit, which is owned by the council.There were three Wilko stores in the borough, with the failed retailer previously operating branches in Kimberley and Giltbrook Retail Park.
A representative for Gedling Borough Council, which had two branches in Carlton and Arnold, confirmed the £66 figure was correct at the time administrators compiled the list but added there was likely £15,000 to £20,000 worth of unpaid business rates owed as well. There was also a branch in Outram Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield. Council leader Jason Zadrozny said the financial implications would have been more significant if the council had not asked for payments in advance.
