Here’s why, according to Rodney Rohde, chair of the Clinical Laboratory Science Program at Texas State University; Stanley Perlman, a professor of microbiology and immunology at Iowa State University and John Swartzberg, a clinical professor emeritus of infectious diseases at UC Berkeley. Most young and healthy people who become infected are likely to recover or may never show symptoms—but since the disease spreads easily, they could infect someone who is older or has underlying health issues, a group at risk of serious disease or death caused by Covid-19.
