Liverpool players appealed for a penalty deep into stoppage time but Michael Oliver chose not to award a spot kick against Manchester City
Liverpool and Manchester City played out a pulsating Premier League draw at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
The game at Anfield ended with the points shared after John Stones' neat opener was cancelled out by Alexis Mac Allister's penalty early in the second half. The Reds continued to push in the second half and were the better side, with Luis Diaz squandering a couple of good chances for the hosts. However, many inside Anfield felt that Mac Allister should have had another opportunity to step up from 12 yards deep into stoppage time. The former Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder looked to be caught in the area by City winger Jeremy Doku as the ball bobbled around inside the box.A short VAR check took place before Oliver's on-field decision was approved, and the game ultimately came to an end.
The draw does not return either Liverpool or City to the top of the Premier League. The Reds now sit second in the top flight, but only on goal difference after Arsenal beat Brentford 2-1 on Saturday evening. City sit a single point behind their Premier League rivals as the title race takes a break next weekend for the FA Cup. Pep Guardiola's side will face Arsenal at the end of March in the last game featuring two of the three title rivals this season.
