TOM'S Toyota driver Sho Tsuboi says that his second SUPER GT title feels different to his maiden success two years ago, as he and Ritomo Miyata secured the crown with their third victory of the season at Motegi.
Tsuboi and Miyata became the first GT500 crew to win three races in a season since Nissan pair Satoshi Motoyama and Benoit Treluyer back in 2011 on Sunday, as they survived a late rain shower to deliver flagship Toyota squad TOM'S its sixth drivers' title. Their victory came after NDDP Nissan driver Mitsunori Takaboshi spun off from the lead in the tricky conditions on lap 59 of 63.
' Tsuboi described qualifying third on Saturday as a 'huge' step towards being able to win the title, as it put he and Miyata in a strong position to take the second-place finish they needed to win the title regardless of what their rivals did. The 28-year-old highlighted the value of being able to test at Motegi two months prior to the finale, with the team having struggled at the circuit in the 2022 season finale.
