Monday’s court proceedings for ex-Ohio House Speaker Larry Householder’s corruption trial brought the latest example of a common theme in prosecutors’ version of the case – deleted records. Read more:

Mike Benza, a law professor at Case Western University, said deleting the text messages, and telling others to do so as well, can be presented to jurors as evidence of the defendants’ mental state. “The jury could use this to determine that the defendants did know what was going on and knew the significance of the text messages which would help prove that they knew they were committing the various crimes,” Benza said.

Prosecutors say Householder agreed to pass HB6 in exchange for $60 million from FirstEnergy Corp., the Akron power company.
