And in a down-ballot race like that for Texas agriculture commissioner, most people just aren’t plugged-in enough to know the details of alleged scandals, further mitigating their effects. “The cannabis world was kind of susceptible to thinking licenses were hard to get because that had been the case under the 2018 farm bill,” she said.“ Everybody’s tongues were wagging about it. It was not a secret that Smith was doing that. And Sid Miller damn well knew that he was doing it, and did nothing to put a stop to it,” Hays said.
Rancher and economics professor Carey Counsil described Miller as “just not an ethical person,” and former state House Rep. James White said Miller was a “lawless commissioner” with a “fake conservative record.”“The political hit pieces by the progressives — they just do that to get headlines,” Miller said. “There's nothing. There's absolutely zero to it, but y'all never print that. You know, that I was totally exonerated.
“I feel pretty good about it. Most people don’t even know I have an opponent and if they know I have an opponent they don’t know who it is,” Miller said. “I think I’ll be fine but I’m not taking anything for granted. I’m working really hard… If you don’t get out and work, you deserve to lose.”
