Although Power Rangers has occasionally tweaked characters and stories from its parent series Super Sen-tai, the shows may never diverge narratively.
The Power Rangers series has almost always used footage from its parent series, Super Sentai, to adapt the latter show, and it’s unlikely that this will not happen in the future. As an adaptation from Japanese media to North American television, it’s remarkable that this aspect of culture and entertainment can be shared across an international audience, even with elements changed to suit some cultural differences.

Both Super Sentai and the Power Rangers depict teams of heroes who use devices to transform into color-coded fighters with unique weapons, sidearms, fighting skills, and personal, rideable robots to face off against supervillains and monsters.
But on a cultural level, it is also unlikely that the Power Rangers will be produced without the aid of Super Sentai footage. After 30 years of the American series adapting from the Japanese one, this relationship has become a hallmark of the series, a feature that helps define its aesthetic and roots.
Why An Original Power Rangers Series Should Happen However, just because the Power Rangers has always adapted Super Sentai does not mean it could not try an original story while still honoring its roots. After all, Power Rangers will always be closely tied to the original Japanese program, and, in a way, it has always needed to change its stories to best suit an American audience, with some of Power Rangers' best villains as original creations.
