Miguel Cairo had something to get off his chest, and the White Sox have done a lot of winning since.
That Aug. 30 game against Kansas City was the first of Tony La Russa’s indefinite leave of absence for medical reasons, and Cairo’s first as skipper in the interim.“It was boiling, because I know we're better than what we showed,” Cairo said. “We were better than the way we were playing. Taking away that we had so many injuries, it was kind of frustrating that we couldn't play a little better than what we were showing.
“You gotta respect who's the head or the leader of the team,” Cairo said. “You gotta respect who's the manager. That's my respect for Tony.”And whatever it was, it “really connected with a couple of the guys, really connected with kind of making that mindset," closer Liam Hendriks said. The White Sox have won more often than not since then. Tuesday's win started with Michael Kopech, who threw five innings of two-run ball — both tallies coming on an Alan Trejo home run.
