While defending aggressive action taken by federal police to disperse a crowd of protesters near the White House to allow Trump to take a picture, McEnany denied tear gas was used and compared the photo-op to Winston Churchill and George W. Bush

While defending aggressive action taken by federal police to disperse a crowd of peaceful protesters near the White House Monday to allow President Trump to take a picture in front of nearby St. John's Church, press secretary Kayleigh McEnany on Wednesday denied tear gas was used and compared the photo op to Winston Churchill inspecting bombing damage during World War II and President George W. Bush throwing out the first pitch at a New York Yankees game after 9/11....

”For this president it was powerful and important to send a message that the rioters, the looters, the anarchists, they will not prevail,” McEnany said of the St. John’s photo op, adding it was “widely hailed” and showed that the American people “will get through this through unity and through faith.”

McEnany also repeatedly claimed that the protesters were not shot with tear gas, an assertion made by the Trump campaign Tuesday night in messages to the media—but theused by police classifies as a type of tear gas, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention definition.
