In some cases, the city’s infill development zone can accommodate the density of that type of housing. “In San Antonio, we have a very extensive code — it’s just a matter of having zoning approved,” she said, which requires finding a balance between what’s the most suitable zoning, what the neighborhood residents support and what works financially for the developer and for construction.
But the challenge with building mid-scale housing isn’t just opposition from neighboring residents, said Taylor Watson, who serves on the city’s Zoning Commission as a representative for District 2 on the East Side.
