So let’s start with those who have a higher risk of developing severe COVID, such as those who are immunocompromised and older folks. “If someone is high risk and has never been boosted or is several months out from their last booster or infection, I would tell them to get boosted immediately,” Dr. Adalja says., professor and chief of infectious disease at the University at Buffalo in New York, agrees. “If you’re vulnerable, I would go ahead and get the booster as soon as possible,” he says.
As for people who don’t fall into a high-risk group? SELF asked four infectious disease experts for their thoughts on this. They had a range of responses, but most agreed that waiting to get an updated vaccine about three to four months after your last COVID infection or last booster dose is a solid plan for this year.
