Speaking in an interview with Inverse , Pike discussed how her role had developed since season 1, and where Moiraine finds herself at the beginning of The Wheel of Time season 2, without her ability to channel the One Power. Joking "It's not what I signed up for," Pike talks about how her character's loss of autonomy - a departure from the novels - added an extra dimension to the show.
“One of the things that attracted me to the show was developing the [physical] language of channeling, and interpreting how you channel the elements of the universe. So the idea of Moiraine being cut off from that was problematic for me.” Will Moiraine Get Her Power Back ? The Wheel of Time season 1 ending saw Moiraine and Rand al'Thor, revealed as the Dragon Reborn, battle with the Dark One, which climaxes with Rand presumed dead by his friends, and Moiraine stripped of her channeling ability. It's unclear how this will impact Moiraine's story moving forward, as this is one of several The Wheel of Time book changes in season 2 that will impact the direction the show takes.
While the creative direction for season 2 is unclear, it will focus on multiple disparate story threads again, and Moiraine is likely to be linked to all of them in some way. Having to keep the secret of Rand still being alive, while also trying to heal her connection to the One Power, should provide plenty of interesting exploration for the character, and her continued role in The Wheel of Time should become clearer as the rest of the season unfolds.
