Whataburger has reduced its corporate workforce and is asking employees to return to its office starting this week.said the recent cuts affected less than one-tenth of 1 percent of Whataburger’s total workforce of more than 50,000 employees — or less than 50 people.Whataburger President and CEO Ed Nelson

The layoffs appear to have been made in areas such as marketing, construction, recruiting, human resources and training last week, according to posts on LinkedIn and Reddit. Some of the employees who lost their jobs had worked for Whataburger for decades, they said on the social media sites.Affected employees received severance packages with combinations of compensation, assistance with continuing medical benefits and transition help, the company said.

The company previously laid off an unspecified number of corporate employees amid the pandemic in 2020. In 2019, Chicago-based investment firm BDT Capital Partners acquired a majority stake in the company from the Dobson family.
