Depending on the circumstances of their departure, such comments are not always reliable, but they can sometimes be a good gauge of what you are getting.
Caldwell, as we now know, will be the man to finally replace Alan Burrows as Motherwell’s new permanent CEO, and on the face of it, it would appear to be an exciting appointment.of his departure from the Saints and the Salopians was greeted with dismay, with warm thanks being extended to Caldwell for the job he had done and his commitment to the cause.
There are talented people at the club who care deeply about it, and one has to hope that Caldwell can harness that, fix some of the areas that have been allowed to slip over recent times and bring a fresh energy and direction to the whole operation as someone focused full time on the running of the club.
The news over the past week that Blair Spittal has signed a pre-contract agreement with Hearts for next season may have had more than a touch of inevitability about it, but just because you know you are about to receive a boot to the nether regions doesn’t make the experience any less painful.
