Fertitta was born in Galveston in 1957 and moved to Houston in 1974, attending Westchester High School. He is the sole owner and CEO of Fertitta Entertainment, Inc., which owns the restaurant group Landry's, Inc., the Houston Rockets, and the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casinos.Fertitta opened a string of businesses after attending college for two years in 1978. He founded Fertitta Construction in 1982 and became a limited partner with the Houston Rockets in 1986.
From the 1990s to the mid-2000s, Fertitta acquired several restaurants, including Joe's Crab Shack, Rainforest Cafe, Saltgrass Steak House, Grotto, La Griglia,Pesce, along with Golden Nugget Hotel and Casinos, according to
