Bones and All star Taylor Russell reveals what she and Timothée Chalamet were actually eating in the film's cannibalism scenes. The film, which comes to theaters on November 18, is adapted from the 2015 Camille DeAngelis novel of the same name, which follows a pair of cannibalistic young lovers who embark on a road trip.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY During a recent interview with SlashFilm, Russell revealed exactly how they accomplished the bloody scenes from Bones and All. Although some might assume that the human meat was merely played by the meat from a different animal, as is usually the case in zombie films, she revealed that the gore in the film was much sweeter. In fact, their gruesome meals were largely concocted from a combination of "maraschino cherries, dark chocolate, and Fruit Roll-Ups.
On a very practical note, Luca said that we were eating corn syrup. But I know that I wasn't, because I remember the incredible effects team and the team who were handling all of that sort of stuff told me that it was maraschino cherries, dark chocolate, and Fruit Roll-Ups. If that sounds good to you, cool. If it doesn't, fair enough. But it was very sweet and [tastier] than anything else maybe you could imagine.
One huge reason for this is that Bones and All is the actor's first collaboration with director Luca Guadagnino since Call Me By Your Name. It also doesn't hurt that he is one of two front-and-center leads in the film.
However, a Bones and All nomination for Chalamet isn't necessarily a guarantee. He has some stiff competition from this year's frontrunners, which include Brendan Fraser for The Whale, a performance that has already earned him multiple standing ovations from various film festival screenings.
