MGM and Caesars have said they were hacked.
The famed North Korea-linked Lazarus hacker group has been bolstering its crypto-stealing operations, conducting several high-profile hacks since June, including one last week that may have pilfered some millions of dollars from cryptocurrency exchange CoinEx, according to a“In the past 104 days, Lazarus has already been identified as responsible for stealing almost $240 million in crypto assets from Atomic Wallet CoinsPaid , Alphapo , and Stake.com ,” the blockchain analytics firm says.
Several major hacks attributed to Lazarus last year were conducted in the first few months of 2022, indicating that the recent activity logged by the company represents a step-up for the hacking collective, the blog says., Elliptic adds. “Four of the five recent hacks discussed previously are of centralized virtual asset service providers. Centralized exchanges were previously Lazarus’ target of choice prior to 2020, before the rapid rise of the decentralized finance ecosystem,” it notes.
