“I'm just telling them how much I will miss them and what I am sending them home with to stay connected while they are gone,” said one teacher.
Teachers are decluttering classrooms and clearing off surfaces so custodians can deep-clean them, she said.
Martinez said that teachers discussed distance learning program at the school and prepped for deep cleaning. "I haven't slept much in the last 48 hours," said William Scott, president of Hurricane Cleaning Technologies, a Southfield-based contractor that cleans Eastpointe Schools and several private schools around Metro Detroit."I've been on the phone with the manufacturer of our disinfecting chemicals."
Calvin said that to disinfect a classroom, a team of two custodians mops the floors, wipes the walls and scrubs down all the desks, including the teacher's desk. They usually work from the back corner of the room toward the door so that when they are completed, they can seal the room and know that it's clean.
“We will be transitioning our teaching and learning online through cloud learning,” Superintendent Gerald Hill wrote. “It is our goal each day to do what is best for kids, and we believe keeping the pathways to education open for our students fall directly in line with that objective.”
