Lars plays a very important role in The Thing (2011), the prequel to John Carpenter's '80s classic that reveals the creature's origins.

Lars ) is part of a crew of researchers at a Norwegian research station called "Thule" studying a spacecraft buried in the Antarctic. While the ship is at Thule for observation, an alien entity breaks out of its ice-covered hull, disappearing into the station and murdering Lars' sled dog.
Lars Chases After The Dog Thing In The Helicopter Lars believes himself to be the only member of the team left when Thule's helicopter returns with Matias, instantly arousing his suspicion. After making sure that Matias isn't also a Thing by forcing him to show him his teeth , he believes all is safe when, much to his surprise, his dog leaps back to life and charges into the tundra.
