There were 30 minute delays and five miles of congestion
Up to 30 minutes delays and five miles of congestion were reported following a major car fire on the M1. Two lanes were closed on the southbound carriageway between junction 25 for Nottingham and junction 24a for the A50 in Derby.
But now the incident has been cleared, and all lanes are open as normal. Earlier in the day, one lane recently reopened after three were shut at first, and the incident has caused disruption. In an update on Twitter, National Highways: East Midlands said: "The fire service remain on scene. Recovery has been arranged. There's a 30 minute delay on approach with five miles of congestion."
Pictures from the M1 traffic cameras have shown crews tackling the car fire. And the front of the car appears to be completely burnt out.
