A dentist has yet to be found to take on the practice
A dental surgery space has yet to see its first patient or even dentist in a West Lothian village, six years after it opened.
Addressing a meeting of full West Lothian council in Livingston, Councillor Kirsteen Sullivan, the depute leader and a ward member for Blackburn, told fellow councillors that since the new partnership building opened in the village 2018: " despite space set aside, a dental practice has never been secured at the centre, leaving local residents to travel outwith the village to Bathgate, Whitburn and beyond to access vital dental services.
Councillor Sullivan's motion called on the chief executive to "write to Jenny Young, the Director of Primary Care for NHS Lothian, to request a detailed plan and time-scales for the delivery of a dental practice to meet the needs of the community." The Blackburn partnership combines council facilities including a library as well as the GP surgery along with space for a dentist.
A police report the the Whitburn and Blackburn Local Area Committee said: "A crime prevention visit was carried out jointly with the Scottish Fire and Rescue service at the derelict doctor's surgery in Blackburn where advice was provided to the owner on how best to secure the property. The property was thereafter secured timeously and police incidents reported to the site reduced significantly.
