London still expected to be hotter than Lisbon, Nice, and Los Angeles on Saturday, despite Met Office weather warnings
On Friday yellow weather warnings are in place for snow and rain for parts of central and southern Scotland. Both warnings are linked to the approaching Storm Olivia and are set to run until 9am on Friday morning.
There could be snow accumulations of 10cm or more in places above 300 metres and “2-5 cm of snow is expected fairly widely above 250 metres, with a chance that a few places within the warning at lower levels could see a few centimetres settle,” the warning reads. The warning runs from 8am to 10pm on Saturday and suggests Storm Kathleen may cause travel disruption, power cuts and road closures. Wind speeds of up to 50mph are expected and may reach 60-70mph for exposed areas.
“So it is going to be unseasonably windy and there will be some heavy rain around at times particularly across northern and western parts.“But it is worth noting that across parts of the South East actually we’re not going to see a huge amount of rain on Saturday and we’re going to drag in some very warm air.”So while some areas in the UK will experience stormy conditions, London at 20C is expected to be hotter than Lisbon , Nice in the south of France and Los Angeles .
