We put it to the test on a busy Saturday afternoon
I treated my mum to the M&S Mother's Day afternoon tea, and what we got for just £10 was amazing. When you think of afternoon tea, you imagine tiny sandwiches, cakes, scones and a pot of tea.Let's be honest, sometimes you feel like you're not getting your money's worth when you're paying £20 per person or more. And when it's Mother's Day, the price usually goes up even more.
Of course, I had to bring my own mum along for the treat and, not wanting to miss out on some quality time with her grandma and mum, my eldest decided to join us too. Three generations, all of us with a love for sweet treats. Ordering was easy though. There are screens at the front where you can choose your food and drink, which is then brought straight to your table.
Next, you select from a fruit scone, a Devon scone or a cheese scone. You also get to choose your type of tea - regular, Earl Grey, decaf, green, triple mint, lemon and ginger, red berry, or biscuit. My daughter, however, took full advantage of the extensive menu, which was more diverse than I anticipated for a store cafe. She ordered a chicken burger and chips, a cookies and cream milkshake and a slice of lemon drizzle loaf.Her meal looked as good as something you'd get in a restaurant or pub, and she said it tasted just as great. Plus, it was cheaper - her meal totalled around £15.
