She proposes using city tools such as money from tax increment financing districts, or the creation of a public improvement district for the Forest Lane corridor, for example, to inject additional resources into the area. Stewart also wants to create an area plan for the LBJ East corridor so that redevelopment spurred by highway improvements happens thoughtfully.
Hasenbauer, a finance professional, is a former appointee to the city’s Community Development Commission. He told us misconceptions about affordable housing abound and that District 10 must absorb its share of apartments, though he noted that not every neighborhood is suited for the housing. “If there is a great project at Fair Park such as creating a Mexican-American museum, I would be all for that,” he said. “And if that took away some bond dollars for having a little extra green space in Lake Highlands, I would be fine with that.”
