The travelling exhibit, at the WDM until May 15, also looks at Canada\u0027s \u0022mixed record\u0022 of welcoming some refugees while overlooking others.
Part of a display made to look like a living room, it’s set up with a motion sensor to play a loud knocking sound. When museum patrons open the door, they’re met with an image of soldiers and an order to leave their home.
The travelling exhibit, created by the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 in Halifax, also looks more broadly at Canada’s place in history as a destination for refugees and its “mixed record” of welcoming some while overlooking others, according to a release from the museum. “The interactive part is really, really good. And it’s got a powerful message,” he said. “When you think of it, given the times that we’re living in, there’s still tons of refugees out there. And in Ukraine, what’s happening there, those people are being displaced.”Article content
